As Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy, I desire
to thank you
for the three gifts you have presented to the Museum. It is
understood that
these gifts belonged to your great grandfather Captain David Adam
McKee, and
are in a loan status.
-
These gifts are:
-
(a) One sextant (the scale reading to 105deg) and with the
following
marks "B. Wood Liverpool." (Neither the year nor the registered
number is
engraved.) The sextant is complete with eye piece telescope and
seven filters
attached to sextant. There is a box for the sextant, with key,
containing small
magnifying glass and two additional telescopes with one additional
filter. All
the foregoing are in good condition;

(b) An old and rare book on navigation by J. W. Norie,
published in
London in 1841 by J. W. Norie & Company, at The Navigational
Warehouse and
Naval Academy, No. 157 Leaden Hall - Street. Title is "A complete
Epitome of
Practical Navigation" - Containing all necessary instruction for
keeping a
ship's Reckoning at Sea, etc. 12th edition; and

(c) A photograph of your great grandfather, Master Mariner,
the late
Captain David Adam McKee, born August 16, 1821, died January 8, 1891.

Francis Xavier MCKENZIE⁽³¹⁹²⁾⁽²⁾⁽³⁾ was born on 30 Mar 1845. They were married Oct 28 1873. After marriage they settled on a farm in Knox County OH. About 1885 or 1886 they moved to Danville KS and settled on a farm in that area. A brother of Francis, Henry McKenzie, also lived on a farm there and the brothers engaged in the threshing business. They purchased a large outfit for threshing wheat as this was the main crop being grown. After a few years Francis and Emma, with their family, moved to Venita OK where both are now buried. They are both direct descendants and related as follows:
