James Leander BLUBAUGH⁽⁸³³⁾⁽²⁾⁽³⁾ was born on 31 May 1856 in Gann OH. He died on 10 Sep 1946. He was the eldest son to live to maturity and was the adventurous type. He liked hinting and trapping, this being almost a necessity for existence. He believed there was a possibility of finding gold along the streams and rivers where he hunted and trapped. He went to Danville KS in 1882 then returned to Indiana and was married in 1884. He and his wife returned to Danville KS and lived there until 1893. He rigged out a covered wagon with yoke of oxen when the last settlement for land was to be made in the Cherokee Strip of Oklahoma. He made a scouting trip across the strip. He took his family and some possessions, going as far south as Hennesey OK. Their living along the way depended mainly on game found along the route. A muzzle loader rifle was used and this treasured old rifle is in the possession of the family. One child became ill along the easy and died near Hennesey OK. James decided, after the trip, the best land was in northern Grant County. He returned to Kansas and waited for the race so he could re-enter the territory and stake his claim. In 1893 the race was made, starting at Bluff City KS, crossing the Oklahoma line into the Cherokee Strip. He, his mother, his sister Elizabeth and her husband, took claims near Clyde OK, in northern Grant County. He built a sod house and stayed on this farm, raising wheat and a few cattle and hogs. He and his wife spent the remainder of their lives on the homestead which is located 1/2 mile north and 1/2 mile west of Clyde OK. They are buried in St. Anthony's Cemetery near the site of where the Catholic Church stood, adjoining the town of Clyde on the northeast. They were faithful Catholics and attended church every Sunday with their children. Parents: Joseph BLUBAUGH and Mary Ann LINEBAUGH.

Jesse Allen BLUBAUGH⁽⁸⁷⁰⁾⁽²⁾⁽³⁾ was born on 16 Aug 1886 in Mechanicsburg IN. He died on 20 Dec 1961. His desire at age 19 (1905) was "to see the world", so he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a means of doing so. He was stationed at various posts in the U.S. and by re-enlisting for another term of service he was sent ot Ft. Wm. McKinley at Manilla Puerto Rico where he spent 22 months. At that time the conditions were quite primitive and he was in a cavalry unit. He sent many scenic postcards home and a few photographs. He never complained about food or regulations but always appreciated letters from home. Since postage was only 2 cents the family wrote often. He returned home via China, Japan and Hawaii in 1910 and brought many souvenirs: silk dresses for his sisters, a chinese counting board for his brothers, fancy silk doilies, some picture mottoes and teaspoons from Japan for his parents. After his marriage on MAR 20 1913 at Lebanon IN he established a General Store in the village of Mechanicsburg and followed that means of making a living for himself, his wife and 2 sons. When his sons were reaching high school age, the family moved to Colorado Springs CO, hoping to improve the health of his wife. They continued to live there until his death. He had suffered from arthritis. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery at Colorado Springs CO. His widow continued to live at Colorado Springs. Parents: Charles Albert BLUBAUGH and Lydia Ann ALLEN.
