in his brother's footsteps and settled in KS in 1885 living with his mother and
brothers at Danville KS or near that community. In 1893 his mother made the
race for land in the Cherokee Strip of OK, and the family moved there on a homestead,
one mile north of Clyde OK. He lived there with his mother until he became of
age. He then wanted to find work or do something other than farming. He was
always a studious type of person with a desire to read and study history, biography,
and late in life, genealogy. Although his time in school was short, he gained
much in reading and home study. Through these efforts he was able to pass the
test for railray mail clerk and started working for the Santa Fe Railroad. He
and his wife lived on the farm near Clyde where their family of six were born.
He was known as "CF" Blubaugh or "Charlie" in OK, and he
loved to visit with his many warm friends. He decided to resign as railroad mail
clerk and took a rural route carrying mail out of the Clyde Post Office. This
did not work out, so he gave it up and farmed his mother's land, living on the
homestead and caring for his aging mother. His wife, whom he married in 1989,
died in 1921 giving birth to their sixth child, a girl. He stayed on the farm
until all the chidlren were fairly well grown and able to care for themselves.
He then moved to Clyde where he had purchased a house and a small acreage suitable
for gardening. He was also employed part-time by the Farmers Co-op Elevator
Company of Clyde OK. With his love for reading, visiting with friends, and his
penmenship, the time was passed as he desired in a carefree leisurely way. He
became quite good at penmenship and was employed by the State of OK to copy some
records concerning the Constitution of the State. He also wrote school graduation
cards, wedding announcements, birth announcements, etc. For many of these he
never charged. Friendship and good wishes was all that he expected. He and his

County. After finishing country grade school, he farmed some and then learned
telegraphy at the Santa Fe depot in Clyde and then was promoted to a better job
at Danville KS, which was on a main line of the A.T. & S.F. railroad. His
wife's family lived only 1/2 mile from the Blubaugh family. They lived in Clyde
for a short time when first married and then in Danville KS. He was a very good
baseball pitcher and played with the Clyde team. He was also musically inclined
and learned to play several instruments. He lead singing in the church choir
and a singing group in the community. While playing baseball he received an injury
to his nose which caused the air passage to close. This affected his breathing
